"O brave new world, That has such people in it"

A long time ago there was period in which humankind started to question everything. People start to realize that there was more then what they had or had every dreamed of. This time was the end of the Middle ages brakingforward into moderntiy a brave worldworld. The start of these times was at the beginning of the Black Death the great equalizer, this unhinged most peoples believe in religion, because why would god do this to us. But, it also help bring about the idea that even if you are rich or poor, lord or serfs you are as equal as the next person in the eyes of the lord. This in turn created a new idea, that the lives of the people should be looking in to, did they do something wrong. Some people thought they had and turned to whipping themselves, while others try to living like there was no tomorrow. Also out of this can a good thing, lack of labor, which, in turn, created higher pay and better standersof living.
Another part of
history that help in the turning away from what they had believed in to what they now believed in, the Hundred Years' War, which thou not quite as jarring had a similar outcome as the Black Death.
Less people more job's an uprooting of tradition and way of live for nearly a hundred years as The Hundred Years' war only lasted for 96 years over a 116 year period.
Last but, not lest, The catholic church. The church at this time in its history where really ballsing it up. With the great schism and the sale of indulgences. The great schism, when there was two
popes one in Rome and the other in Avignon, both excommunicating the other making it hard to believe who was in power, the people believe that because of this no christian was going in to heaven. But, then there was the sale of the indulgences a pass to heaven at a price for you or a loved one. Both of these acts made people nervous about the church which, made the people think. What about us, why us, which, in turn, lead to think out side the bible out side the church, leading to the splinter group called the protestants. These three factors and more land way for the renaissance a rebirth of questioning life, questioning everything.

New thinking, a new way of life, a new people, a new time, a new beginning.

The list of ten thing's that the greeks have given us.

8, Drama and I don't mean, "oh on he didn't bitch". Really theater in which a story is conveyed to the crowd.

The social scene

woman, intelligence, and the caste system.

Another sign of civilization in the in these ancient worlds, where how people treated each other. In early Egypt man and woman where treated differently, woman where treated better then men as they where seen as the givers of life and should be worshipped by everyone. Men sometimes feared these powerful woman though. Men where not treated badly in the sociey, the only people in this culture to be treated badly where the slave's but, here again is a sign of an evolving civilization. Instead of just cutting of the head's of their enemy's captured in war and their criminal's they put then to work building the pyramids. One of the upsides to slavery in Egypt was you could work your way out of it. If you where a criminal who worked hard you could pay off your debt and become a free man or woman.
Another form of social order was shown in Mesopotamia with the collective effort of it's people, with the building of roads, temples, and military defenses. This show a community working together with other people in mind rather than themselves. Another part of the Mesopotamia community sore fit to write the laws of the people down on the stele of Hammurabi. The Hammuradi code is the set of rules and laws of he people of that time. Unlike some other civilization the Hammurdi code informs you of social standing, rather then just knowing it, you where told where you are in the pecking order. There is a social order in the hindu culture called the caste system.  The caste system worked at first on the color of your skin, but, now it work's thought birth right's. Unlike the hindus one of the chinese social orders was based on your merit and education. What a crazy idea.

rulers

Rulers,
Certain events happened in these ancient times which show's an advance of it people which, in turn, show the beginning of civilization. The writing of laws for one, which, had been passed down orally in the passed. In Egypt before they wrote the law down it was passed by mouth. "the law of the land is the mouth of the Pharaoh". The laws of egypt where written down between 1575-1085 B.C.E. (New Kingdom). Similar to the Mesopotamia's who wrote their laws down on slate of Hammurabi (more later) Other aspects of a growing civilization were buildings of great town's, city's, countries, and empires. The first to do this was Sargon I, who around the year 2350 B.C.E. created the worlds first empire, by consolidating groups of people with different language under his control. Other things attributed toward civilization around the world, like China, who put in place an I Q test for it's government way before the second century B.C.E. With the aryans taking over the Indus valley, changing it from a tribe area to governed area.

gods, rules, and the social scene!

Gods, the gods of ancient time Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, and China. We have been looking at them over the last couple of week's and I have come to realize that they are not all that different. Amon (egyptian) Shamash (mesopotamia) Surya (india) and Tai-Yang (china) all gods of the sun. Different names, different times, and different people worshipping the same thing, the sun.  What do these gods really have in common, or what do they have to do with the start of civilization. The gods themselves don't really have anything to do with it, but, the people that believe in them do. With an understanding of religion the people of these cultures show a high understanding of thought and a believe in higher human existence.

The gods of Egypt varied from animism to polytheistic to monotheistic. It changed with the pharaoh Amenhotep IV (fiero pp30) who put Aten above the other gods making it monotheistic. The Pharaohs themselves where seen as god on earth, doing gods work. This maybe why the people of Egypt where willing to build the pyramids for them. There are a couple of story's of Egyptian gods that are similar to the story in the christian bible (Osiris and Set) like the resurrection of Jesus. The Egyptian with this show a understanding of something greater then themselves and wishing for understand  which is a step into civilization
The gods of Mesopotamia where similar to the gods of Egypt but, there was more physical and spiritual woe. There is again a similarity between the start of civilizations. With the under standing of  higher power.  My ideal of the Mesopotamia's first step into, taste of, civilization was when the Epic of Gilgamesh was writtenThis story tell us about Gilgamesh, first understanding of lose and pain and the search of an afterlife.
The gods from India and China are a little different, not that they are not the same as the gods of Egypt and Mesopotamia  they are just visualized in a different way. I will never be able to explain it. Although, the people of these place still had the same experience's realizing a higher power, questioning their existence. both of these cultures had a believe in being part of and not being a subject to god, unlike the other civilization but, they still believed and questioned why they are here.

Did we start fighting or did we come rocking "N" rolling

The idea of these two titles are just as they sound. Did mankind fight to get to the top of the food chain, from the primordial soup where people believe we had our first ring side seat or did we come rocking 'n' rolling, ready to go straight at it. Programmed with all the information that we needed from creation. Again I am going to be middle of the road on this one as I am not to sure where man came from. Although I do believe that, be it from the soup's ring side or if God/Allah/Brahma just drop us off, we did flight for are place and we still do( to get the girl or man or to make that last dollar). knowledge and critical thought came later or at the time when Adam and Eve eat the apple from the tree of knowledge or when we were enlighten with meditation from Brahma. So my thoughts on this are we started fighting and we slowly grow to know what that means even thou we still do it. Even if I am wrong and God/Allah/Brahma did place us on this earth I will still believe that mankind fought his/her way to the top to where we are now.

Where did we come from?

I am in the middle of the road on this one. Where we created by god or did we evolve from our brothers the chimps. Both of these arguments have good views but, which to believe in. Science has the information to indicate that we did have a common relative with chimps but why should I believe these books o imformaion and not what is said in Good Book?. Which in turn tells us that God created Adam in his own image and them created Eve from his ribs.  Ah, science, its founded, it is explained but by who's words and who's ideas, someone else I don't know. I am not say that we didn't evolve from chimps but I am not to sure how that works or how it worked. Again back to the religious view just because we cannot proof that certain religious text weren't science text from back in the day. Which could prove that the creation was the scientific idea/explanation for the beginning of human life. That over time as been change to one of the many forms that today are seen as a religion, rather than a scientific explanation.
